- Flexor retinaculum and tubercles of the scaphoid and trapezium
- Insertion
- Lateral side of the base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb
- Nerve
- Recurrent branch of the median nerve (C8-T1)
Actions
- Abducts the thumb
- Helps oppose the thumb
Notes
- Weakness and thenar wasting are late signs of carpal tunnel syndrome.
