- Oblique head: bases of the 2nd-3rd metacarpals, capitate and adjacent carpals; transverse head: anterior shaft of the 3rd metacarpal
- Insertion
- Medial side of the base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb
- Nerve
- Deep branch of the ulnar nerve (C8-T1)
Actions
- Adducts the thumb toward the palm (key pinch)
Notes
- Weakness in ulnar nerve palsy causes Froment's sign (FPL substitutes during pinch).
