Anatomy
- Origin
- Posterior surface of the middle third of the ulna and interosseous membrane
- Insertion
- Dorsal base of the distal phalanx of the thumb
- Nerve
- Posterior interosseous nerve (radial) (C7-C8)
Actions
- Extends the distal phalanx of the thumb
- Assists extension at the MCP and CMC joints
Notes
- Can rupture after a distal radius fracture (tendon passes around Lister's tubercle).
