Anatomy

Origin
Superior two-thirds of the iliac fossa, ala of the sacrum and anterior sacro-iliac ligaments
Insertion
Lesser trochanter and the femur just below it; tendon of psoas major
Nerve
Femoral nerve (L2-L3)

Actions

  • Flexes the hip
  • Stabilises the pelvis (e.g. during contralateral hip extension in standing)
