Anatomy
- Origin
- Common erector spinae tendon; transverse processes of the upper thoracic and lower cervical vertebrae
- Insertion
- Transverse processes of the thoracic and cervical vertebrae, ribs, mastoid process
Actions
- Extends and laterally flexes the vertebral column and head
- Longissimus capitis rotates the head to the same side
