Sides of the T12-L5 vertebral bodies and discs; transverse processes of all lumbar vertebrae
Insertion
Lesser trochanter of the femur
Nerve
Anterior rami of lumbar spinal nerves (L1-L3)

Actions

  • Flexes the hip
  • Laterally flexes the lumbar spine
  • Active in upright sitting and frontal-plane spinal stabilisation
