Anatomy
- Origin
- Lateral condyle and upper half of the lateral tibia; interosseous membrane
- Insertion
- Medial and inferior surfaces of the medial cuneiform and base of the 1st metatarsal
- Nerve
- Deep fibular nerve (L4-L5)
Actions
- Dorsiflexes the ankle
- Inverts the foot
- Controls foot lowering after heel strike

- Weakness (e.g. common fibular nerve palsy, L4-L5 radiculopathy) produces foot drop and steppage gait.
