- Intertrochanteric line and medial lip of the linea aspera
- Insertion
- Base of the patella and medial patellar retinaculum

- Distal oblique fibres (VMO) resist lateral patellar displacement

- A systematic review found no exercise that selectively activates VMO over vastus lateralis; train the whole quadriceps.
