- Origin
- Clavicular head: medial half of the clavicle; sternocostal head: sternum, upper six costal cartilages and external oblique aponeurosis
- Insertion
- Lateral lip of the intertubercular sulcus of the humerus
- Nerve
- Lateral and medial pectoral nerves (Clavicular head C5-C6; sternocostal head C7-T1)
Actions
- Adducts and medially rotates the humerus
- Clavicular head flexes the humerus
- Sternocostal head extends the humerus from a flexed position
